Fit Tips: 6 Foods To Reduce Belly Fat

Hello!  This is the first installment of what will be a series fitness tips and tricks.

There are many lists of “_#_ foods to reduce belly fat.”  I have done research on the foods listed and compiled my own.  Here are a few delicious, nutritious foods that I recommend for keeping belly fat at bay:

1. Avocados.  Hands down a super healthy fruit.  Besides being delicious, avocados are filled with good fats (mono- & poly-unsaturated fats) which lower blood cholesterol and help the heart.

2. B-a-n-a-n-a-s!  Yep, this fruit is a great balance of sugar and fiber along with other nutrients.  These also make the perfect on-the-go-snack because they require no washing and are portable.  Just peel and enjoy!  The dried bananas are also yummy.

3. Whole grains– Bugar, barley, quinoa, cous-cous, and brown rice are just a few of my favorite whole  grains.  Since these are whole (not broken down into flours) grains, they have more fiber and a lower glycemic index to keep you feeling full longer.  Whole grains also lower LDL (bad cholesterol) and triglycerides (the main component of fats) in the blood, so they are heart friendly!  Try with beans for complementary carbs.

4. Blueberries.  How do they get all those antioxidants into such a cute, little berry?  These marvelous berries are loaded with vitamins and minerals, in particular many B vitamins.  Since I am kinda particular when it comes to eating only perfect looking fruit (weird, I know), I like to throw these guys in the freezer for a healthy, refreshing snack on a hot day.  Plus, they last longer and are ready to be tossed into smoothies, oatmeal or muffins.

5. Yogurt!  This is the product of the bacterial fermentation of milk.  The good bacteria in yogurt promotes digestion and keeps the bad bacteria counts down, so you dont get sick.  Its also filled with protein, calcium and B vitamins.  Currently, I love the fat free greek style yogurt.  It can double as sour cream.  You dont notice the difference in soups or on tacos since it is so rich.  Recently, I made the best, super low fat, creamy smashed potatoes with it.  Yum!  Recipe coming soon.

6. Green Tea.  This boost your metabolism so you burn more fat.  Green tea has lots of other health benefits and is a terrific fat burner when sipped warm or cold.

Enjoy!

XO Miriam
